Starch Living Fabric Rules
Starch Living uses only natural fibres such as linen, cotton, silk, wool, mohair, and their blends.
These fibres are biodegradable, come from renewable sources, and are gentler on the skin and the planet.
No polyester, nylon, acrylic, or blended synthetics are used.
This avoids plastic pollution and microfiber shedding into waterways.
All our fabrics are sourced from certified Italian mills known for quality and craftsmanship.
The mills use traditional looms and custom warp and weft settings to create unique textures and depth in the fabric.
Low-impact dyes are used, and environmental regulations are followed to ensure sustainability.
The fabrics are sewn and finished in Starch Living’s Johannesburg atelier by skilled artisans.
Hand-cut patterns, French seams, monogramming, and custom detailing are all part of the craftsmanship process.
This ensures quality control, reduces waste, and creates meaningful jobs.
Sustainable & Ethical Sourcing
The fabrics are traceable from their source, and the company works with EU-certified mills.
Natural fibres are used in all textiles, and the company does not engage in greenwashing.
The company ensures that waste is minimized and packaging is recyclable.
The fabrics are made to age beautifully and last longer, making them a sustainable investment.
Linen and cotton become softer over time, while sateen feels smooth and lustrous.
The terry towelling and mohair throws are highly absorbent and luxuriously soft.
Starch Living's fabrics are designed to be long-lasting, reducing the need for frequent replacements.
The focus is on longevity and quality, rather than fast fashion or disposable goods.
The company supports local artisans and employs skilled South African workers in its Johannesburg studio, which reduces shipping emissions and maintains tight quality control.
Conscious production methods are prioritized over mass production, ensuring that each product is carefully crafted.

Why Choose Starch Living?
We don’t believe in mass production. Instead, each item is crafted in small batches or made-to-order, ensuring that every piece gets the attention it deserves. Our small-batch production gives us the freedom to experiment with new fabrics, test them, and ensure they meet our standards — while preserving the integrity of each piece. This is not about quantity; it’s about quality and longevity.
If you have a question about our fabrics and you are not sure which fabric to purchase, we welcome you to contact us or visit our showroom.
